The mission of LSC compasses for all activities related to statistics and computation, including:

  • Research, studies and projects;
  • Providing advice and other related activities;
  • Organizing activities, events and other forms of promotion and transmission of knowledge.

Research will follow on the applicability of statistical and computation knowledge, with particular attention to the relationships established with various institutional entities operating in our environment.

General Objectives

The LSC is appointed to carry out the following activities and others that fit in its mission:

  • Statistical and computational scientific research, fundamental and applied;
  • Studies, i.e., work aimed at giving advice and consultancy to or in cooperation with public or private institutions;
  • Organization of conferences, seminars, exhibitions and other activities of a similar kind;
  • Publication of texts or other works of a pedagogical, technical or scientific nature;
  • Stimulation and promotion of public awareness actions supported by projects and programs related to the topics of its general purpose.

Activities to develop

  • LSC will stablish contracts, agreements, protocols or other agreements with national or foreign entities, either public or private, with particular reference to the sponsorship of statistical and computational activities or actions as part of its purposes.
  • The Laboratory's activities will be organized preferably around projects, and projects being defined as any concrete action, education, training, research, or other services consistent with the laboratory’s goals.
  • Organization of conferences, seminars, exhibitions and other activities of a similar kind;
  • Projects will be proposed and may be admitted for consideration, or denied in accordance with procedures and criteria to be established by rules of the Laboratory.
  • Once admitted internally, a project can be approved, a condition that allows it to start immediately, or be conditionally approved by the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee will define approval conditions which, if fulfilled, make possible the final approval of the project and its subsequent operation.

Members and Associates

  • All teachers, researchers or students of ISLA can be members of LSC, provided their activities fit within the laboratory’s activities.
  • Can also be associates of LSC any public or private collective group, including individuals, who see themselves in the mission and scope of action of the unit.
  • The admission of a new member or associate is decided by the Executive Committee, upon a proposal of his own or of any member of the Laboratory. The admission of a new member should always refer to an effective involvement in a specific project of interest to the unit.
